ok,car takes 3-4 second to start, hot or cold it dont make any difference.

it will start (eventualy 4 seconds after turning the key) but at first it will not ,it just wont fire, to give you a better idea,as if there is no fuel

new filter plus the T-piece that fits on top of fuel filter and new seals, and no faultcodes via vag-com.

What should i do now!!!

also some smelly fumes can be smelt when standing with car running.

A4 TDI (B6) AWX ENGINE....NO VISIBLE LEAKS OR SPLIT HOSES........THAT I CAN SEE!

I would start by verifying the timing and eliminating that...

You may have a fuel/air leak permitting the system to lose prime when the car is not running.

timing must be ok,as today all day cars been starting as soon as key was turned, maybe ok for 3-4 days, then the problem comes back, maybe for a good few days, weird! if its running and i switch engine off,and re-start instantly....same problem. cant see no leaks under car or in engine bay,and not seen any split pipes around engine.

You might just want to look at your engine coolant temperature with Vagcom to see if it looks correct. I was having an intermittent problem with my 04 Jetta. Occasionally I would have a hard time starting it (would crank and crank with no start, usually would get it on 2nd attempt); most of the time when this happened I would get the check engine light. The code that I was getting was engine coolant temp implausible/intermittent. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and have not had the problem since. The bottom line is that a bad temp getting reported to the engine computer will mess up your starting timing and give you a lousy start.

Sounds very much like a problem in having

I also had no power when car was cold

I had a very basic power enhancment device fitted to the fuel temp sensor

When i removed this it is not totally better but is greatly improved.

So i would sugest lookins at that.

I couldn't believe!

My friend,
try starting the car with the headlights on!

If it starts ok, like I think it will, you'll have to change the headlights switch. Around 70€ plus taxes!

I only found out the problem, checking the fuses in the garage, abd starting the car with the lights on, thing that I never do!

Good luck, and pass the word, there is a lot of guys with the same problem!

I have the same car that you, 2002 a4 1.9tdi 130 hp.

What caused the problem, I don't know. I think it's something about the fuel pump. If you remove the fuse correspondent to the fuel pump, number 28, you'll find the same starting problem.
In my case, the warning light on the dashboard of the headlights on, for some time that didn't turned on. That was a sign that something was wrong.
I strongly advise you to check thouroughly the fuel admission system for leaks, because I found a leak in the fuel radiator, and had to replace several valves, on the top of the fuel filter. The ones you mention as T.

I believe this happened because the engine was sucking the fuel directly from the deposit, creating a vacuum phenomenum in order to fill in with fuel. Once it started it ran perfectly, it's like taking water from a fish bowl: you pull a little bit, after that the bounding stress between particules does the rest.

The fuel radiator is beneath the car, on the right side. It's a metal plate, very long, it goes almost from the front wheel to the rear wheel.
I´m spending roughly 12 litres to do 100 miles. But it dependes on the the way you drive and where you do it. The most of the time I´m running on highways, usualy around 90-100 miles per hour. Going around town traffic I think my average goes around yours.
Going back to the leaks, I never found any fuel stains on the floor, because the leaks were very small, and the fuel only ran out with the engine running. I mencioned the fuel radiator, but you may find leaks near the fuel deposit, or any where, even on the engine supply tubes.
Unless you have the time, and a way to lift the car in order to take off all the plastics that protect the car beneath, the best thing to do is to take the car to your dealer or any car shop, and ask them to do it. There will be enough fuel around the holes to be noticed.
Good luck

I don´t make a lot of miles in town, 30 miles on weekends vs 400 miles on highway during the week. Between refills, usually, a tank goes for 600 miles! So I can't tell the amount of fuel spent, but it's much more than the rest of the week. I wouldn´t be so worried, it seems to be pretty much it. You can´t forget that, altough it's a diesel engine, this kind of cars are not known for beeing economic, they weight more than a 1,5 tons, but fast and confortable. That's not the type of car for town driving.
