How much is it??

Looks like it's made to replace the 94R so it should fit..

Still have the original battery in my 2003!! 199,000 miles. I think I'll go with the dealer battery when it's time to replace.

I'm jealous. Never in 38 years have I had a battery last much longer than the pro-rated warranty.
How often do you clean and replace electrolyte?

Never touched it.

x2... The original battery in my 01 lasted at least 7 or 8 years. It wasn't 100% when I replaced it...but it was still starting her up in cold weather with no issues.

I don't know if that was a fluke or what. But it impressed me so I replaced it with a another from the dealer. (After doing a ton of research into what's out there first of course.)

Sears Platinum

Don't have one of these-all VW batteries in mine- but the Sears Platinum has 4 year free replacement with 100 month pro-rated. I noticed the weight on a series 65 was 60 lbs. and the cost is 209.99 with exchange. Yow!

The dealer had the best price (~$115) in my area for a replacement. I had a few iffy starts last winter, so decided to replace it last month. Given the cold weather so far this winter, I'm happy to not need to worry about it.

It does seem like OEM battery longevity is impressive. Maybe a combo of being generously sized, of good quality and the lowish underhood temps of a diesel?

A year ago a member posted that he got a 95Ah OEM battery from VW.
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread...ght=battery+AG

Impressive. I wonder if that was intended for a Toureg V6 TDI. I took a peak at the battery in my new car (2010 Jetta) today and expected to see the AG prefixed battery with an 80Ah rating. Sadly, it's a 72Ah battery (5K0 915 105 G), but with the same cranking amps rating. I wonder if all '09+ cars are shipped with a 72Ah battery.

Is that battery manufactured by Energizer or Johnson Controls? "Distributed by" is slightly ambiguous. Perhaps it shouldn't, but the fact that it's only distributed by Walmart and Sam's Club troubles me a bit. It's also curious that they don't publish the amp-hour rating. For an extra $10-$20 I think I'd still rather have the original VW battery, as they've been proven to last up to 8 years.

Just bought a Bosch battery at Pepboys. Group # was 78DT.
CCA @ 0 = 850, CCA @ 32 = 1000
Slightly larger than the OEM, battery but still fit in the compartment.
$97 with 36 month free replacement warranty and 96 month prorated warranty.

T_D_I_POWER January 16th, 2011 12:10

Energizer batteries are mfrd by JCI available at Sam's

Ah DIN/EN spec. battery is tested at a balmy 80 deg F temp. While SAE spec. battery is tested at RWE-Real World Environment of 0 and 32 deg F temp.

Great buy

TDIJetta99 January 16th, 2011 12:49

Here's what mine looks like.. The "distributed by" part got rubbed off from something on top of the battery so I'm not sure where it actually came from..

Bad wal-mart battery

I had the battery pictured above (MAXX-94RN) for less than a year before it expired. I do live where we see -20F overnight from time to time and that's when it gave up the ghost. My car is always parked outside.

It took an hour and a half of waiting around what I lovingly refer to as "Hell Mart" but I did get a replacement MAXX-94R with 910 cranking amps and 765 CCA, and the label on the new one reads "distributed by Johnson Controls Battery Group", made in Spain. Let's hope this one lasts more than a year...

I would have bought an Interstate but last year the dollar difference between walmart and Interstate was just too great for me to bear. There is no dealer local to me so an OEM was not happening either.
