Smoke on the dyno was heatsoaked at 140*F IAT and the turbo still cleared it up. -Boost is 28psi and spools up at 2000rpms. Go GTB! -EMPs will go 4psi higher than max boost at most and be 1:1 for the most part. The turbine is the restriction once the rpms are up past 4500. -EGTs are maxing out at 1350*F. Room for fuel and the lift pump -Still breaking in all the parts, but Matt was getting 41mpg on break-in oil I believe. -Mark's tune is doing a great job of keeping the power up, check those gauges. Comparable dyno This is loudspl's old dyno 1856 with R520's and 11mm pump so similar fueling and pretty similar engine other than being an ALH. 164whp 273 ft-lbs. I think Eric's got sick fuel going into it now and puts down 174 on the same dyno. Why did I send it to Ohio? Not many TDI gurus in Los Angeles. Harvieux is great but wasn't interested in the modded beast, and I had the jeep turbo on there already. Didn't want to use VWSpecialties, so I looked at my options and thought of going to Fixumhaus because it was the next closest who would do this specific build. But instead, I went to who I knew. Whitbread Innovations. Matt's been feeding the mod hunger by even providing me the option for the gt2056v on the b4. Matt could fabricate, and fit, and build, and fix and make the beast the way I wanted. Mainly, I could trust Matt. So it cost me almost $1000 just to send it to Matt. I'm in Los Angeles and sent my car 2500 miles! That's how dedicated I am to these TDI's! I will say this about Matt. As a fairly not knowledgeable car guy, Matt has been the best to work with. I ask some really stupid questions, and ask for crazy things but Matt never, not once, treated me like I was an idiot. That goes pretty far with me when it comes to where I spend my money. He also never suggested things that I didn't need, but made sure it was the best setup. I worked fairly hard to get enough for this build. Catering a lot of weddings and dinner parties to make this happen. You all know Matt knows his stuff, and I'm more than thankful to drive a car like this. All my gratitude to Matt Whitbread. Cheers! So here is the Whitbread build. Everything was custom from Matt unless stated. Hopefully even better than the DG short shifter that was original on the 02A. Shifting is even a bit short, without any mods. Matt was surprised, and didn't need to modify it. Wow, what a beast! I'll drive down to SoCal just to check it out! Hopefully you'll make it up here for our Fall BayFest on September 24th and 25th. Nice build indeed ...

Congratulations Jeremy & Matt. lots of hard work has paid off!
|
WOOOHOOOOO!!! awesome dude!
that custom actuater is rather interesting haha |
Very impressive guys. Stock valves? Why no lift pump yet, couldn't get a fuellab one in time?
Would love to see numbers on the intake manifold, before and after. I have heard rumors about it too. |
Growler- Thanks Aaron, it's been a wild trip, still gotta pick it up!
Newtdi- Thanks Andrew, now you know why I couldn't make the gtg. Keebler145- Yeah, i'll keep salt off that actuator rod and it should last me a while, because no one else is gonna make that one =p. Nash TDI-Fuel lab got sent yesterday, and stock valves, but the stronger springs. |
Looks great, nice clean install. No surprise there. What kind of dyno was it? Can't tell from the video.
|
A superflow eddy current I believe.
If chippednotbroken sees this, my car was having very similiar symptoms as his build. emps were rising, egts went up an extra 100 degrees, boost was lagging. Put the muffler on instead, and it went back to being happy... Don't know what it is with big turbos and the cats. |
looking good.. any oinfo about smoke or afr, dyno with one big roll or two small ones?
I'm trying to make a guess about the turbo performance =) |
Very good number and beautifull setup!!!
I very happy to see this on 1Z, you make in real my evaluation i think to do on my AHU at top of tunning (Aprox 190-195Whp at 30psi on my GTB2056VL) Thumb Up! Dieseleux |

Very nice! Holler when you plan to fly in. We'll try to come get you and run you up to Lima.

194whp is great considering the 764s and no smoke @ 28 PSI. Another car did 164whp on the same dyno with a 1856 turbo @ same boost (IIRC), R520 nozzles, and a very aggressive tune (lots of smoke). This is a testament to the efficiency of kooyajerm's car.
Look forward to bigger nozzles and we can cut back the off-boost smoke at ~1800 RPM WOT. Kudos to Whitbread and others who made this possible!! :) You need to move to B.C. so I can go for a ride ;) |
