What's the best class I hitch for a '96 Passat? Found a Reece with a flat bar receiver for $140, and a Dalan (never of that co.) with an 1 1/4" receiver for $193. I think I like the Dalan better because their mounting bolts are horizontal and the Reece uses vertical bolts. Also seems like 1 1/4" is an easier size for finding different plug-ins. Any preferences here?
Thanks again,

Have a look at the European hitches for a Passat. If you go to my web site then you will find something about Passat towbars (UK English for hitch) with pictures of actual hitches.

The great thing about European tow hitches is
1. You don't have to drill holes in the chassis to fit them
2. They are rated at the manufacturers limit, which is something like 1200kg for a trailer with brakes (i would have to confirm that though)

On the other hand they do not have a receiver, you have to have the ball permanently in place and those fancy bike racks and things won't fit.
