Gosh I love this car... so very comfortable and still great mileage for such a big car!
MBZ S350 bought used @22k miles.. now only have 35k miles
Problem: Now for the second time i have a CEL on -- the stealer replaced the DEF fluid heater once... and now out of warranty it is seemingly the same code that comes up
P20BD & P20BE
Can anyone educate me on these codes??? Please??
I cant seem to find much info on them... no even on the MBZ forum.
I have a 2003 Beetle TDI that i love as well and at 150k miles it is having some issues that i can handle... Even my 2001 Ram Cummins has had issues that have been easy to rectify. Wanna drive the MBZ as my back cant handle the rough ride of my others for my longer drives... hence the MBZ.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thx!!!!

My ML350 had the heater go out at about 70K. The stealer replaced it under MG goodwill. The emissions warranty runs up to 70K but it was actually at about 72K but I complained (and I don't normally do that) that the heater is part of the emissions equipment. They tried to tell me that it wasn't because it is not directly attached to the exhaust system, but rather, attached via some sort of other part (metal, plastic, I don't really know). But the bigger issue for me was that since the def heater exists in order to help emissions, it should make NO sense where it's located since it is part of the emissions system. They sort of agreed and replaced it. I believe they were just stalling.

Now it is in the shop to get the timing chain replaced (stretched) at only 110K miles. Pretty awful. the 9's and 10's have had timing chain and tensioner issues. They are also telling me that the oil cooler seals are bad and they are the updated purple ones that came out in '10. That's about a $2k job plus the timing chain (just rolling it in and not doing the guides) is about a $1500 job. I'm seriously considering doing the oil cooler seals myself, but since I don't see any oil coming off of the back of the engine, I'm thinking they're trying to get me to go with fixing the oil cooler seals when it actually could just be the turbo inlet pipe leaking (another common issue).

Tread lightly and make sure you know what's going on with everything in that engine bay since it seems like these OM642's are problematic. I hope to do the DPF delete (adding the buzzken pipe) and add a JR Autotune tune to it in order to get rid of the emission crap (it will be used for strictly off-road purposes, only). I will delete the swirl flaps, egr, etc., and hopefully never look back. Oh, and by doing these mods, I will also change the oil cooler seals, too.

Good luck.

I think some "Euro" shops are Mercedes Autologic specialists and might know what the codes are.
