Mechanic in Ireland

We have a friend who lives in Clough, Ballacolla, Co. Laois near Abbeyleix. She often reports issues with her Golf TDI and difficulty finding someone who knows what they're doing. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Irish newbie here, my local garage owner is as good as I've seen, although a bit far from her- I'll ask if he knows of someone in her area.
There are thousands of TDI,s here and most decent private garages have good diagnostic equipment.

In most of Europe, mechanics know the diesel stuff due to their popularity. Here in the states it’s a different story, they were not popular and most of our cars are gasoline. It makes the tdi stuff specialized, because most diesel shops here are repairing trucks as well as pickups, and they are completely different animals.

In my experience a lot of the Eastern European and Polish mechanics are very good on TDI.
