RyanP's 157hp 318ft/lbs Mk2 Caddy TDi Van

dThought I'd finally make a topic for my van, I've had it for 18months and never found the time to make a post, plus the fact I did not want to be guessing power figures and not be able to back them up, although I was only 2hp out! Lol

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...DY157FLYHP.jpg

This was on the same rollers that my (then) standard 2.0TDi Jetta made 132hp, I don't fluff any figures as it's really only for my reference that I put it on anyway, plus the fact the Dyno was booked and the customer let me down! I could fit a larger turbo and get another 20hp without changing anything else but I’m happy as it is.

This is the maximum the standard turbo will push out, I'm running 1psi more than anyone says I should and I only get a whiff of smoke during spool. The van has covered about 10k in this state of tune and about 5k before that with just the injectors and no Re-map. I drive it hard and nothing has let go so far, regular oil changes (6-8k) and letting it warm up/cool down are critical!

The picture is a little out of date but I’ve only cleaned it once for these so I'll not be taking any more soon, lol

I'll get an engine bay pic when I actually clean it, someone lit a fire next to my van and all the ash is still under the bonnet, lol

Spec List:

Custom GAZ Adjustable Rear Shocks
Full Geometry Setup @ VW Dealership

Mk3 VR6 Highline Leather Heated Seats

The next mods I think I’ll be doing is a rear anti roll bar and maybe fit some airbags to the rear axle as it likes to scrub when I’ve got more than 2 engines in the back! Ideally it needs painting too!

I'm also looking for an 08 onwards Mk3 Caddy DSG to have a play with, I'll be putting a GTB turbo on there and some other tasty mods for 200+ hp and handling to match.

Thanks for looking!

Versatility, power and fuel economy...
I tip my hat to you sir, this is what tdi is all about.

UFO June 8th, 2011 10:15

That's some crazy torque! Nice job.

ryanp June 11th, 2011 04:24

Thanks, It's going to be a tough act to follow for my next Van but we'll see! It wiped the smirk off a Boxster owners face even with a 6 speed conversion in the back, lol!

benIV June 11th, 2011 20:44

wait, what's torque? i wish they had caddy's over here still. smart looking vw

Seatman June 11th, 2011 22:31

Torque's that thing that breaks your clutch lol:D

Also load your car up and it still goes like a train, the amount of balls your motor has etc, that's what I think it is anyway.:)

After watching Top Gear I thought its supposed be puralized and called torques.

Nice numbers. I wish we had the caddy still sold here in the USA.

GTiTDi June 18th, 2011 10:00

Damn I wish I had one of those vans, It looks so versatile. Ripping on Boxsters with a load of parts, that's priceless!

diesel-dave August 7th, 2011 06:05

nice job Ryan! i like it

ryanp September 20th, 2011 03:26

Thanks guys, I never even saw these replies!! It does the job it's intended to do, i bet it's had more than 80 6 speed conversions in the back and countless engines! haha

I'm getting a Mk3 caddy shortly but i wont be selling this, it has 150k miles now and i want to do more than 200,000 before i sell it!!

K.I.T.T. October 27th, 2011 06:31

Ry, are you still using the standard SMIC?

Ash :)

ryanp October 27th, 2011 07:20

Yup :)

K.I.T.T. October 27th, 2011 12:14

Ah right. I was having a nosey at one the other day - they look different to the ones found on other cars. Narrower, but longer. I suppose volume and surface area isn't much different though. I take it heat soak's not an issue?

Sorry for the slight hijack. Good power and torque from the VNT15 though!

Ash :)
