Hi
I'm new to this forum.

I have recently bought a VW Passat 3B 1999, with a PD115 AJM motor. The car is chipped, from a previous owner, no idea how this was done.
The problem i'm having is that it is almost impossible to start without diesel start when it is cold.
When it's running it seems fine however.

I have checked a lot of things, but I'm getting at a point where I'm a bit lost.

The following has been checked:

Timing belt is new and aligned with alignment tools (previous belt was also in alignment)
However when looking in vcds it seems off. -5 BTDC.

Coolant sensor is new.
Glow plugs seems new, but have been checked, power to these are ok. I have even adjusted the preglow to be sure that this is not the problem.
The in tank fuel pump have been checked, and is right now power constantly with the ignition (the previous owner had put it with the driving lights :S )
This is not a permanent solution, but i cannot see this would change anything other than it running less before startup.
There is fuel to a new fuel filter, and there is fuel all the way to the IP pump.

When it is sprayed with diesel start it will fire up in some seconds, otherwise it might fire up after 3-50 seconds if lucky.

I have attached some logs, in hope that these will help finding the problem.
It looks like the MAF sensor is off, perhaps because of the tuning, perhaps because of a bad MAF?
But in my head this will not affect the startup?

I have checked the shudder valve by the egr and has temporaly disabled it, so it is always open, the EGR is new.

I hope somebody has some fresh thoughts on this, as I feel a bit stuck.

I'm thinking perhaps bad o-rings at the injectors or bad injectors. or IP pump?
But why does it run okay after startup?

No fault codes in vcds engine wise.

Thanks in advance and best regards
Joachim

Is it as simple as the starter just cranking to slow, it's about 190 rpm ?
Any thoughts?

I know the starter fluid is not a good idea, and has only been used when it needed to be moved. The car is not be daiylied right now. I read a lot on this forum, and found many useful informations, but wasn’t convinced that the starter would be able to cause this problem alone. I will of course check the connections first as others have had problems with this. If there are other things i should be considering before replacing the starting, please let ne know. Thanks already.

Your original post suggested the starter was too slow. Maxmoo suggested it is too slow. The two threads he link that said it is too slow.
If you cannot afford a new starter consider rebuilding your starter or at least disassemble clean and grease your starter.
