Thank you DBW. Very informative. Its apparant the fourth generation CR Bosch is developing will provide a performance increase while reducing emissions. But one sentence on the next to last page (right column) has me wondering about the effeciency (MPGs). It reads:

"On the other hand, due to the high technical value of the system a certain additional effort is expected by means of an overall cost penalty." Is this a fuel cost, or developmental cost?

I realize this paper is translated from German, so some words may not be literal translations. The above sentence could mean that the new CR system will cary a fuel penalty for the increased performance and lower emissions. Or it could mean that this system is more costly to design and produce.

After re-reading the sentence I tend to think the author is saying the systems development cost is higher. I do not think he wants to advertize that this system is less effecient, fuel wise, if it is.
