I got pulled over this morning on I84 on my way to work. I'm never in a hurry to get to work... Cruise set to 72 which is closer to an actual 70-71, running in a 65MPH zone. As I pass a state trooper sitting where they always sit, they pull out behind me and put on the lights.

Trooper walks up and goes through the normal routine and tells me she got me for 80 in a 65. I told her that wasn't possible - I was only doing 70, and had been following a Honda Fit for about 5 miles at the same speed (she said he was going 74).

I showed her my scan gauge and ran through everything saved on the current trip - 10miles, .2 gallons, 53MPGavg, 56MPHavg and 71MPH top speed.

She said she had never seen anything like a scangauge before, then apologized and said she would have her unit checked out.

I couldn't believe it - figured I'd have to fight it out in court!

I just compiled freediag-0.3 scantool software on an old A20M IBM ThinkPad. I have a VagCoM serial interface from Ross that I have hooked up to my 1996 Passat TDI.
I can't seem to see the ECU when the software runs. I used every interface listed in the program. It says ISO9141 on the ROSS part. I have also set the SET INTERFACE command to SE9141 and VAGTOOL. Has anyone had experience with this freeware? It seems to run OK after compiling just can't find the ECU.
